The oblong, tapered-end seeds are best known for flavoring rye bread. Caraway does not work well with many other spices, but it pairs exceptionally with garlic, and the combination is used in pork and beef dishes. It also makes a good seed cake, which was highlighted by James Beard in his memoir Delights and Prejudices, where he said that "No tea table, in my opinion, is complete without a good seed cake".
